About this survey

A broadband magnetotelluric transect over the Ferguson Hill geothermal prospect, on Stuart Creek

pastoral lease about 90 km north of Roxby Downs, South Australia, acquired by Quantec Geoscience

Australia for Petratherm Limited on geothermal exploration licence GEL 158. Twenty-nine soundings

were recorded from 5 to 12 November 2007 at a nominal 500 m spacing along a 13.9 km line bearing

029 degrees, to estimate the depth to crystalline basement and judge whether the cover insulates

a radiogenic heat source well enough for a geothermal resource. Recording was remote referenced

tensor magnetotellurics on Quantec RT-130 loggers, 100 m dipoles and three induction coils per

site, referenced to a station 11 to 19 km east of the line. All 29 transfer

functions carry impedance and tipper with variances at every period, 37 to 43 periods each,

spanning 0.0034 to 1311 seconds with no absent value. They are served as stored, in the

acquisition frame the files declare, 29 degrees east of north.
