Contribute a survey

Files first. Drop your EDI, EMTF XML or MTH5 transfer functions, watch the stations land on the map, then fill the short required section below. The optional sections help us publish faster, but you can skip straight to package and submit. Everything runs in your browser; your files and details never leave this page until you submit. This page performs local pre-submission checks to help you prepare a clean submission. Final validation is authoritative in the AusMT submission pipeline, the gateway runs the AusMT validator on your package and a curator reviews it before publication; if the two ever differ, the pipeline result wins.

1. Your files

EDI, EMTF XML and MTH5 transfer functions are all accepted. AusMT catalogues transfer functions and their metadata, not raw MT time-series data. If you send a station as both an EDI and an EMTF XML, the EDI is what gets served and the XML is kept alongside it. Files are checked locally now; the AusMT validator in the submission pipeline is authoritative during curator review.

2. The essentials

Six fields and two tick-boxes. This is everything the AusMT validator requires.

Folder name (auto): au.
Every access level lists this survey publicly, its map presence, exact station coordinates and screening diagnostics are visible to anyone regardless of level. open also serves the data files for download. metadata_only and embargoed withhold all data bytes (downloads route to the source archive) until a curator releases them; an embargo never lifts automatically, even after its date passes.
Defaults to Australia. Edit it if your survey is elsewhere.
Private, for curator contact only. Not written into the submission package, the gateway sends it to the curators privately, or include it in your email to the operator.

3. Helps us publish faster

All optional, but every field here means richer discovery, cleaner citation, and less back-and-forth with a curator.

A full date, YYYY-MM-DD. Recorded as dates.issued. If you do not know the exact release date, leave it blank: a publication date is never guessed from when the data were collected.

The people or organisations named in this survey's citation, in the order they should appear. Add a row each; tick Organisation for a body such as a state survey or company. ORCID or ROR is optional.

Recorded as creators, the citation author line. Leave blank and AusMT cites the organisation and the year.
Recorded as a contributors row with the DataCite role ProjectLeader. Leading a survey and being named in its citation are separate facts: if this person should also appear in the citation, add them above as well.

Optional, and separate from the citation credit above. Record who collected in the field, who to contact, who curated, who sponsored, who holds rights, or who distributes the data.

If the data were published somewhere before, paste the citation exactly as it is written and the DOI or link. We reproduce your wording verbatim and never rewrite it.

The wording is recorded under citation; the identifier is recorded as a row under This dataset elsewhere. A curator decides which identifier the published citation should quote.

Only if more than one body was involved. The organisation you named above is already recorded as the custodian; add a row for anyone else, and tick what they did.

Some licences and agreements require an exact acknowledgement. Type it exactly as it must appear; we reproduce it verbatim and never rewrite it.

4. Was this survey part of a collection / program (eg AusLAMP)?

Only if this survey belongs to a national programme or campaign (for example, AusLAMP). Leave collapsed if it is a standalone survey.

Surveys sharing a collection are grouped in the portal and MTCAT. Collections describe programmes or campaigns (for example, AusLAMP) and hold no transfer functions themselves, all data, metadata, and provenance remain with the individual surveys. Use the same collection identifier and title across all member surveys.

5. I know my metadata

Provenance identifiers, instruments, processing and data types. Leave these to the curator if you are unsure, server validation and curator review fill any gaps.

Start by picking what the identifier points at; the citation relation is set for you. The raw time-series collection at NCI is Raw time series; a GA eCAT or state landing page is Entire dataset; a paper goes under Related publication above, not here.

Package semver: 1.0.1 metadata fix, 1.1.0 added stations, 2.0.0 reprocessed transfer functions.

6. Check and package

What happens next: package your submission here, then either upload it directly with a submit key (when a gateway is available on this site) or email the packaged .zip to the AusMT operator (contact on the About page). The pipeline runs a ClamAV virus scan and the AusMT validator, a curator reviews it, and the survey is published. The local checks here are advisory; server validation is authoritative.

Dimensionality and the screening diagnostic are computed by the offline science engine at build time; this in-browser preview shows the metadata and station extent it can read directly.
